Nations and international community continue to criticize Israel of its aggression on Gaza’s Rafah. Israeli strike on Rafah has already killed 67 Palestinians. The death toll in Gaza has crossed 28,340. Israel has rescued to hostages from Rafah yesterday, which they called a “turning point” for Israel. Hamas called it a “ploy” by Israel to hide their defeat. Hamas also said that three more hostages were killed by Israeli air strike.
The hostages’ family has approached International Criminal Court (ICC) against Hamas leaders. The Israel-Palestine director for Human Rights Watch (HRW) welcomed the decision by the families and said that it is “great to see families of hostages turning to the [ICC] for accountability”.
It is to note that Israel and its close ally, US has previously rejected the ICC investigations against possible abuses in the Israeli-Palestine conflict. And, Israel, which hold strong to the policies of building settlements on the occupied lands of Palestine in violation of the international law, has not officially accepted the Rome Statute that established ICC.
While the American President Joe Biden called Israel’s conduct of war in Gaza “over the top”, he appeared subject himself for public scrutiny for his tongue slip. He called Israel’s military operation in Rafah as “our” military operation. He said, “our military operation in Rafah – their – the major military operation in Rafah should not proceed without a credible plan for ensuring the safety and support of more than 1 million people sheltering there”.
US has provided billions of dollars in military support and diplomatically backs Israel in everyway possible. Moreover, Washington continue to refuse to call for a ceasefire against Israel’s genocidal bombing in Gaza.
