Pakistan: At least 16 civilian labourers were kidnapped by unknown armed men in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Thursday, said local police. According to reports, the labourers were working on a government installation when they were kidnapped this morning.
Reportedly, their vehicle was set on fire in the Qabal Khel, Lakki Marwat district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

No group has claimed responsibility for the incident so far.
However, the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has been accused of such abductions in the past. The militant group reportedly remains active in the area.

Meanwhile, a bomb disposal unit defused a 25-kilogram bomb planted near Mehboob Ziarat check-post in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district.
The bomb was planted on the route where a security forces convoy was headed, stated The Hindu, quoting local police.

What is the TTP?
The organisation is said to be close to al-Qaeda. Established in 2007, the TTP has been blamed for a series of deadly attacks across Pakistan. The TTP, also known as the Pakistan Taliban, formed around the time when NATO operations were conducted in Afghanistan after 9/11.
