A 14-year old “suspected gunman” detained in Thailand after a shooting in a shopping mall on Tuesday. The incident happened at Siam Paragon mall in the capital, Bangkok.
Though earlier 3 people were claimed to be dead, later it was clarified that only one was dead and six people were injured. Police said a suspected teenage was arrested after the “deadly” shooting.
The shooting happened at the Siam Paragon mall, the city”s most popular leisure spot, at a time of “peak shopping hour”. It was named as the “world”s most photographed place by Instagram” back in 2013 and is popular among the locals and citizens alike. The Emergency Service shared image of police detaining an individual who was lying face down wearing a khaki cargo pant. Metropolitan Police Detective Department shared the image of the “suspected 14 year old gunman” being detained by the police
Srettha Thavisin, Prime Minister of Thailand, expressed his condolence and concerns regarding the tragic incident. Taking to X (formerly twitter), he wrote he was aware of the following up of the situation and he care most about the safety of all citizens. He also conveyed his “deepest condolences” to the family of the deceased and the injured people. He urged the security officers to facilitate for the safe return of the citizens to their home.

Thailand in not new to the “gun violence”. In 2020, a soldier wrecked havoc in the north-eastern city of Nakhon Ratchasima, nearly 29 people lost their life and 57 were injured. Last year, an ex-police man has murdered 35 people including 22 children. Later he killed himself.
