Bangladesh on Monday registered a “strong protest” against Home Minister Amit Shah‘s recent remark about Bangladeshi nationals during his visit to Jharkhand.
While attending an election campaign in Sahibganj on Friday, Home Minister attacked the ruling JMM-led coalition government in the state for allegedly promoting “rampant infiltration” from Bangladesh and warned that if not checked, illegal immigrants will become a majority in the state in the next 25-30 years.

“In Pakur district, slogans are being raised asking Hindus and Adivasis to leave Jharkhand. Tell me, does this land belong to Adivasis or Rohingya, Bangladeshi infiltrators?” Home Minister had said.
The Bangladesh foreign ministry has handed over the protest note regarding the matter to the High Commission of India in Dhaka.
“The Ministry conveyed its serious reservation, deep sense of hurt and extreme displeasure and called upon the Government of India to advise the political leaders to refrain from making such objectionable and unacceptable remarks,” the protest note read.
