First Poll Since Uprising: Bangladesh General Election Underway
Dhaka, Bangladesh: Bangladesh is witnessing its first general election after the 2024 uprising, which ousted its former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Awami League administration following massive nationwide protest.
As per reports, around 127 million eligible voters are heading to the polling booths in Bangladesh today, marking the return of the country to democracy.

While the Hasina-led Awami League seems to be invisible, the contest is analysed to be a direct battle between the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and a Jamaat-e-Islami-led coalition of 11 parties, which includes the National Citizens Party (NCP), formed by youth activists instrumental in ousting Hasina.

Chief Adviser of the interim government of Bangladesh Professor Muhammad Yunus cast his ballot in the 13th general election and referendum on the July National Charter at the Gulshan Model School and College centre in Dhaka. He also shared the picture of him casting the vote on Twitter.
