During the G7 Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Italian counterpart Georgia Meloni posed for a new selfie. The video went viral after #Melodi trend that broke the internet in December last year. Shortly after the selfie, Meloni took to her X handle shared a video of both the leaders. In the video clip, Meloni was heard as saying “Hello from the Melodi team”. PM Modi reposted it saying, “Long live India-Italy friendship”.

This is the second selfie of the leaders together. Meloni shared one on her X handle in the 2023 COP28 Summit, with the hashtag Melodi.

When Meloni received PM Modi for the G7 Summit, both leaders greeted each other with namaste gestures. This is the fifth consecutive participation of PM Modi in the G7 Summit. He attended last ten summits.
Taking to his X account, PM Modi thanked Meloni for the invitation. He said, “We discussed ways to further cement India-Italy relations in areas like commerce, energy, defence, telecom and more. Our nations will work together in futuristic areas like biofuels, food processing and critical minerals”.

As the host of the G7, Italy hosted the gathering of the bloc of seven major economies, including Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the UK, and the US, along with the European Union.
On the day of his arrival, Prime Minister Modi held bilateral talk with Meloni, during which they discussed defence and security cooperation between India and Italy. In an official statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said that, “the two sides discussed bilateral defence and security cooperation and hoped for further enhancing the defence industrial collaboration. They welcomed the forthcoming visit of the Italian aircraft carrier ITS Cavour and training ship ITS Vespucci to India later this year”.
