Jeisheng primary School in Guangdong province of China has decided to charge fees from students for afternoon naps. The naps could be om desk, mat or a bed arranged in special rooms. A teacher will also be appointed to monitor the sleeping students.

As per the Hong Kong based news organization South China Morning Post, a viral screenshot from the school notice circulated on Chinese social media platform lists three types of fees. Sleeping on desk is charged with 200 Yuan (28$), sleeping on mats in the classroom is charged with 360 Yuan (49.29$) and sleeping on beds arranged in private rooms will cost a total of 680 Yuan (93.10$).

A member of school”s staff confirmed the new arrangement to local media. He said “It is not mandatory, the students can also choose to go back to home during their lunch break”.

Chinese social media platform Weibo is filled with criticism regarding the news. One user commented whether it is joke and that the “school has gone crazy just to make money”. Some other user also commented that “next the school will charge a fee for going to the restroom or breathing”.
