During his visit to Pyongyang for the first time in 25 years, Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean President Kim Jong Un signed a defence pact on June 19. The military treaty agreed that the two country would help each other during the time of ‘aggression’.
The treaty states that, “in the event that any one of the two sides is put in a state of war by an armed invasion from an individual state or several states, the other side shall provide military and other assistance with all means in its possession without delay”.
After the agreement, North Korea agreed that it will send a military engineering unit to support Russian forces facing Ukraine. The troops will be sent to the Donetsk region, and are expected to arrive next month itself, as reported by Kyiv.
