Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently alleged that the Indian government is involved in the assassination of Khalistani separatist, Hardeep Nijjar.
Following the row, both Canada and India expelled senior diplomats and the situation is getting worse.
India suspended visa services for Canadian nationals, Canada issued travel advisory asking citizens to avoid J&K travel.
Congress MP and public intellectual Shashi Tharoor on Thursday took to his social media, and condemned the so-called Western media”s attitude over the coverage of ongoing India-Canada row as “blind”.
He accused the media houses from the West as they are predominated with an attitude to judge other countries so quick and blind.
“I never cease to be amazed by the blinkers regularly put on by Western media. They are so quick to judge other countries, so blind to their own!”, wrote Mr Tharoor on X (formerly Twitter).
He also said that the Western media put blinkers on and asked whether there are “any mirrors available” in the West.
Mr Tharoor”s comments comes amid a dispute between India and Canada over the Canadian PM”s claim of “credible allegations” that the Indian government is involved in the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a pro-Khalistan Sikh terrorist. India has already dismissed these allegations as “absurd” and “motivated”.
The row get more worsened as both of the country expelled each of its senior diplomats. India also suspended visa services in Canada on Thursday citing “operational reasons”.
In a post on X, the Congress MP criticised a BBC story in which the British public service broadcaster says that the Western nations not want to align India, “the key player” of “grand geopolitical chess board” along with Russia or Iran or Saudi Arabia, which are often alleged of extraterritorial assassinations.
“Western nations have condemned alleged extraterritorial assassinations carried out by countries such as Russia or Iran or Saudi Arabia. They will not want India to join that list”, reads the BBC analysis titled “Hardeep Singh Nijjar: Why Western nations fear India-Canada row”.
“Western ministers and officials will be working hard to try to ensure the diplomatic row between Canada and India does not bleed into other international relationships”, the analysis added.
Mr Tharoor quoted the statement and posed a question. “Hello? The two foremost practitioners of extra-territorial assassinations in the last 25 years have been Israel and the US! Any mirrors available in the West?”, he asked criticising the BBC”s view that neglects the popular Israel and US”s involvements in extra-territorial assassinations.
I never cease to be amazed by the blinkers regularly put on by Western media. They are so quick to judge other countries, so blind to their own! This @BBC analysis says, “Western nations have condemned alleged extraterritorial assassinations carried out by countries such as…
