A Texas man accused of murdering twin teen girls was executed on October 1 evening by lethal injections, three decades after the accused committed the crime. A former high school football star, Garcia White, 61, was convicted for fatally stabbing twin sisters, Annette and Bernette Edwards, to death in December 1989. He was convicted in 1996 in the case.

The accused was pronounced dead at 6:56 pm local time in the United States. Before the execution, White apologized to the families of the victims for the pain he caused them.

The accused had first killed the twin’s mother, Bonita Edwards, and then murdered the 16-year-old girls at their home in Houston. “I would like to apologize for all the wrong I have done and for the pain I’ve caused to the Edwards family. I regret, I apologise, and I pray that you can find peace,” the media house quoted the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, citing White.

White had submitted a last-minute request for a stay of execution with the US Supreme Court, claiming that he was intellectually disabled and thus not eligible for the death penalty.
