Mercedes Benz is set to launch the all-new E-Class in India later this year, with the sixth-generation model confirmed to be offered in a long wheelbase (LWB) version. This luxury sedan, designed to compete with the recently unveiled BMW 5 Series LWB, has been spotted in India ahead of its official release.
Spy Shots and Local Assembly
Two test mules of the new E-Class, one black and one silver, were recently seen at a yard in Pune. As with other locally assembled Mercedes models, the upcoming E-Class will be produced at the company’s Chakan facility in Pune from Completely Knocked Down (CKD) kits. The sixth-generation E-Class, which made its global debut in April 2023, features significant updates in design and technology.
Design Enhancements
The 2025 Mercedes Benz E-Class LWB showcases a refreshed front fascia with a piano black finish around the single-slat front grille, flanked by redesigned LED headlamps. The roof features a sharp kink beyond the C pillar, giving the sedan a sleek, coupe-like profile. At the rear, the car is equipped with quad LED taillights featuring a distinctive star-shaped pattern for the brake lights. Additional design highlights include flush-fitting door handles and 18-inch dual-tone machine-cut alloy wheels. The dimensions of the new E-Class LWB are 5,092 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,493 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,094 mm.
Interior and Features
Inside, the E-Class LWB is expected to align with the latest generation of Mercedes vehicles, featuring a superscreen setup that dominates the dashboard. This includes a 14.9-inch central touchscreen infotainment display, a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster, and a front passenger infotainment unit, all running on the latest MBUX system. The interior also boasts ambient lighting, paddle shifters, dual-tone upholstery, a Burmester-sourced audio system, four-zone climate control, power-reclining rear seats with an ottoman function, air suspension, and rear-wheel steering. Safety features are comprehensive, with the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) offering Level 4 autonomous capabilities.
Powertrain Options
Globally, the sixth-gen E-Class is available with six engine options. The India-spec E-Class LWB is likely to feature a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol, a 2.0-litre diesel, and a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine, all paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. Each variant will come with a 9-speed automatic transmission.
Market Position and Competitors
Upon its launch, the sixth-gen Mercedes Benz E-Class LWB will directly compete with the BMW 5 Series LWB in the Indian market. The introduction of this model signifies Mercedes’ commitment to offering luxurious and technologically advanced vehicles tailored to the preferences of Indian consumers. With its blend of innovative features, refined design, and powerful performance options, the new E-Class LWB aims to set a new standard in the luxury sedan segment.
The 2025 Mercedes Benz E-Class LWB represents a strategic move by the German automaker to strengthen its foothold in the Indian luxury car market, offering a compelling alternative to its rivals.
