Delhi To Ban ICE Two-Wheeler Registrations From August 2026; What EV Policy 2.0 Means For You

The Delhi government’s proposed EV Policy 2.0 appears to be the last straw for two-wheelers that run on gasoline and diesel, as well as three-wheeler CNG vehicles. Additionally, the draft has set a lofty goal of registering 95% of new EV vehicles by 2027. The government’s goal of having 25% of vehicles be electric by 2025 is being significantly missed; according to data, just 13–14% of the target has been reached. We examine the financial impact this will have on both of us.

Can you believe that because they run on gasoline, India’s top-selling two-wheelers, such as the Hero Splendor and Honda Activa, are prohibited from being driven on public roads? Thanks to the latest draft of the Delhi EV Policy, that day will soon arrive. In just four months, on August 15, 2025, ICE and CNG vehicles would no longer be allowed to be registered if it is authorized. The length of time that current ICE two-wheelers will be permitted to operate in the nation’s capital is another matter of concern. The CNG-powered Bajaj Freedom, which debuted last year, is also hovering with the sword.

Now that the draft has been given to the cabinet for approval, the focus is on two-wheelers because they offer greater range, a more accessible network of charging stations, and an improved servicing experience. The good news is that, if EV two-wheelers can overcome range anxiety, this would help consumers save money on fuel and maintenance.

Public transportation will suffer greatly as a result of the new Delhi EV Policy’s goal to phase out CNG-powered three-wheelers. According to the draft, after August 15, CNG permits would not be renewed. Only electric-powered vehicles will be eligible for renewing licenses, while current drivers may choose to convert to electric vehicles.

The government is committed to expanding the eco-system’s and the EV charging network’s footprint. Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa discussed the program , stating that there will be a large number of public charging stations in addition to facilities for recycling and battery swapping. Through the introduction of programs with educational institutions, the strategy seeks to expand the EV ecosystem.
