Honda CBR 650R With New E-Clutch Teased Ahead Of Launch With Fully-Imported CBU Model
In India, Honda debuted the new CBR 650R earlier in January. The sporting bike will get its first significant modification less than four months after it was first released. Through its Honda BigWing India social media accounts, the Japanese automaker has hinted at the impending release of the upgraded CBR 650R.
The social media post included the statement, “Unleashing a new kind of precision,” and a teaser image that shows a partial image of the middleweight sports bike. “Watch this space!” This marks the introduction of the new CBR 650R with an electronic clutch, sometimes known as an E-Clutch, which will be offered in a few foreign markets.

The ease of use of a fully automated transmission and the engagement of a manual shifter are perfectly balanced by the new E-clutch technology. Stated differently, it is the exact counterpart of the intelligent manual gearbox (iMT) found in well-known Hyundai and Kia vehicles. As a result, the rider can shift gears manually without the use of a clutch.
Introduced in October 2023, Honda’s E-Clutch technology blends aspects of the company’s Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT), rapid shifters, and conventional manual clutches. The E-Clutch system adds about 2 kg to the total weight, but the clutch and transmission components are the same as in regular models.

The E-Clutch eliminates the need for the rider to physically engage the clutch lever, allowing clutchless gear changes for both upshifts and downshifts, as well as smooth starts and stops. The mechanism helps keep the engine from stalling by turning on automatically when the engine is started. The clutch lever can still be used manually by riders, and the system will re-engage automatically soon after.
Additionally, it offers customization, letting riders choose between three shift sensitivity settings for both upshifts and downshifts: hard, medium, or soft. If the motorcycle is in a gear that is too high for the present speed, the instrument display may recommend downshifts. Real-time inputs like shift pedal pressure, engine speed, gear selection, and throttle position are used to control E-Clutch operations. Clutch engagement is managed by a dual-motor actuator unit housed inside the engine case, and fuel flow and ignition timing are regulated accordingly.
A 5-inch TFT instrument panel that supports Honda’s RoadSync app is one among the CBR 650R’s highlights. Riders can use this app to get features like SMS and call notifications, turn-by-turn navigation, and much more. The existing CBR 650R, which retails for Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), is anticipated to fetch a slight premium over the revised model.
