Mahindra has announced that it would rename its recently introduced BE 6e electric SUV, which is priced at Rs 18.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The challenge in the usage of the BE 6e brand in court is that the business has given a number of grounds for contesting the rights in court, even though it has stated that the Mahindra BE 6 would be the new name for the born-electric SUV, which will compete with the Tata Curvv EV and the future Hyundai Creta EV.
InterGlobe Aviation Limited, the corporation that operates IndiGo Airlines, registered the 6e. The company claims that the BE 6e trademark has already been registered under the Class 12 section. Additionally, “BE 6e”—rather than the stand-alone “6E”—is the trademark of Mahindra. Mahindra adds that they believe InterGlobe’s protest is illogical with its prior actions. Since the automobile manufacturer had its Indigo sedan on the market at the time, the SUV manufacturer said that Tata Motors had protested the aviation company’s usage of the IndiGo trademark back in 2005. With its outstanding range options and cutting-edge technologies, Mahindra’s BE 6 remains strong despite the branding controversy. The legal battle aside, it is set to challenge rivals in the electric SUV segment effectively.
The brand-new electric SUV will be marketed under the BE 6 designation, at least until the conflict between Mahindra and InterGlobe is settled. With MIDC ranges of 556km and 682km, the first of Mahindra’s born-EVs is available with 59kWh and 79kWh battery pack configurations. Although the whole price list is anticipated to be made public in January 2025, deliveries are scheduled to start in late February or early March.
Industry-wide trademark concerns are complicated, as demonstrated by Mahindra’s BE 6e brand dispute. Even though Mahindra will temporarily change the SUV’s name to BE 6, it is still committed to defending its original trademark in court. The BE 6, which has 59kWh and 79kWh battery packs with corresponding ranges of 556km and 682km, is expected to impress despite the continuing legal battle. Deliveries are scheduled for early 2025, and regardless of the ultimate moniker, this born-electric SUV is sure to create ripples.
