The Third Generation Audi Q3 Revealed

The third version of Audi’s Q3 SUV was unveiled, with significant exterior and interior upgrades. The competing Mercedes GLA and BMW X1 has a plug-in hybrid drive train in addition to three internal combustion engines. The Audi Q3 is anticipated to launch in India shortly after it first goes on sale in other auto markets in September.

Similar in design to the existing Audi Q5, the updated Q3 appears to be a smaller sibling of the larger SUV. Its single-frame honeycomb grille up front also seems to have been influenced by the Q5. Audi had hinted at the split-headlamp arrangement last week, which is completely novel and features pixel-shaped DRLs above. Matrix headlights with 25,600 micro-LEDs, each half as thick as human hair, are located beneath these.

The top window line now smoothly blends with the rear windscreen in profile by crossing the D-pillar. Like the wheel arches, even the side skirts’ previously blacked-out cladding has been completed in body colour. The normal alloy wheel size is 17 inches, although the 20-inch variant is also available. The Q3’s rear end has been modified to accommodate a split-light configuration that is similar to the new Audi A6. In addition to flanking an illuminated four-ring Audi insignia, the OLED tail lamps do include six graphics. Finally, the bumper conceals the exhaust tips underneath and has a more aggressive look.

The Q3’s interior has been significantly improved, as is typical of newer models. A 12.8-inch touchscreen running Android Automotive OS is located next to the driver’s 11.9-inch instrument cluster. Capacitive touch buttons are a new feature on the three-spoke steering wheel. The most obvious change, though, is that the gear selector has been moved from the centre console to behind the wheel, creating more room between the front seats.

The Audi Q3 will be offered in foreign markets with two engine options: plug-in hybrid, diesel, and turbo-petrol. First in line is a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with 150 horsepower and cylinder deactivation technology. This is followed by a larger 2-litre turbo-petrol engine with 265 horsepower and Audi’s Quattro four-wheel drive system. The diesel has a 2-litre, 150-hp engine; 4WD is not available. There is a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission available for these three engines. Lastly, the Q3 PHEV generates 272 horsepower by combining an electric motor with a 1.5-liter TFSI.
