Toyota’s only hatchback in India, the Glanza, has reached a significant sales milestone. The badge-engineered version of the Maruti Baleno has surpassed 2 lakh sales, with 26,178 units dispatched in January alone. This achievement comes 66 months—or five and a half years—after the premium hatchback first entered the Indian market.

Manufactured at Suzuki Motor Corporation’s Gujarat plant by Maruti, the Toyota Glanza made its debut in June 2019. The hatchback took just under four years to reach its first 1 lakh sales milestone, but the next 1 lakh units were sold at a much faster pace, in just one year and nine months.

The current financial year (FY2024) has been the most successful for the Glanza, with 52,262 units sold over a 12-month period. Meanwhile, in the first 10 months of FY2025, Toyota has already sold an estimated 40,742 units. Among its competitors, the Glanza’s sales position it between the Hyundai i20, which recorded 47,434 units, and the Tata Altroz, which registered 31,925 units. However, the Maruti Baleno continues to dominate the segment, with a significant lead of 1,39,324 units sold in the same timeframe.

An interesting trend is the growing share of Glanza sales compared to its Maruti twin. In FY2020, the Glanza accounted for just 13.51 percent of total Baleno sales. This share has risen steadily over the years, reaching 29.24 percent in the current fiscal. If this momentum continues, combined dispatches of the Baleno and Glanza from Suzuki’s Gujarat plant are expected to comfortably exceed the 2 lakh mark by the end of FY2025.

Toyota offers the Glanza with both petrol and CNG powertrains. The petrol version comes with both manual and AMT automatic transmission options, while the CNG variant is limited to a manual gearbox. Available in a total of nine variants, the premium hatchback is priced between ₹6.90 lakh and ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
