Bill Ackman, the American investor, hedge fund manager, and philanthropist, known for his activist investing style and as the founder and CEO of Pershing Square Capital Management, has announced his endorsement of Donald Trump for the upcoming presidential election.

Ackman shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he had decided to endorse Trump, a conclusion he reached some time ago, as indicated by his supportive posts for Trump and criticisms of President Joe Biden. He stated that he had not previously formalized his endorsement because he wanted to explain his reasoning in detail and address the arguments against Trump thoughtfully and convincingly.

Ackman noted that Biden supporters often assume he has lost his rationality when he expresses support for Trump, but he assured that his decision was made carefully, rationally, and based on empirical data. He mentioned his intention to write a long-form post to elaborate on his views, although he had not yet had the time or felt the urgency to do so, given that the election was still a few months away.

“Today, when one announces an intention to support Trump, Biden supporters who know me tend to assume that I have lost it. I assure you that I have made this decision carefully, rationally, and by relying on as much empirical data as possible,” Ackman wrote on X.

He explained that his formal announcement was a response to numerous questions he had received, and he wanted to be officially on record with his position. Ackman emphasized the importance of the upcoming presidential election, calling it one of the most consequential in his lifetime. He mentioned having spent a few hours recently with President Trump and planned to share firsthand observations in his detailed post.

Ackman urged people to keep an open mind about the election, suggesting that their views on Trump might have been influenced by mainstream media or those who rely on it. He highlighted the recent debate as an example of the media’s unreliability and compared media organizations to sports teams that operate based on their owners’ and coaches’ agendas, rather than as unbiased truth arbiters.

“Remember, media organizations are like sports teams that run plays chosen by their owners and executed by the coaches they hire. They are not unbiased arbiters of the truth,” he wrote.
