Lulu Group International, Abu Dhabi based retail giant, has plans to bring its business of well-equipped, all in one Hypermarkets into smaller towns in Kerala and Uttar Pradesh. It also has plans of taking its malls to Ahmedabad and Greater Noida. In its plans to develop malls with a focus on hypermarkets, the cities which are under consideration are Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Kanpur, and Banaras.

The Regional Director of Lulu, Jayakumar Gangadharan said on this, “we have successfully secured partnerships with the government for Banaras, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, and Noida. The food park in Noida is in its final stages.” He also said, “we are also considering Greater Noida for a mall, which is projected to have an area exceeding one million square feet,” quoted the ET.

He added that there were requests for developing more hypermarkets in Lucknow and cities nearby. The company has taken surveys regarding this and would go ahead. Lucknow, he said would be the flagship for these projects. In Lucknow, the company operates from a 2.2 million square foot mall and the plans to bring in 2 -3 standalone hypermarkets in the city. The other malls, which is expected to come up at Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Kanpur, and Banaras would have an area of 3-4 lakh sq ft. In addition to these plans, the retail giant also has 5 projects for Kerala alone.

Properties which have the potential for the building-up malls in Lucknow have been identified by the retail company. In Mr. Gangadharan’s words, “Lucknow is poised to serve as the flagship location for these malls. The demand from customers to inaugurate malls in areas like old Lucknow, Mahanagar, Sitapura Road, and Gomti Nagar has been noteworthy. We have already identified several potential properties within Lucknow and are planning to inaugurate 2-3 of them in the near future,” the ET reported.
