The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released guidelines for students with Type – 1 diabetes, appearing in the upcoming board examinations 2024. CBSE informed that these students face problems during the examination, and the guidelines cater the special needs of them.

The education board extended certain facilities towards these students to overcome medical issues faced during the examination. As per the guidelines, students will be allowed to carry items such as sugar tablets/Chocolate/Candy, Fruits, snacks, prescribed medicines, water bottle, glucometer, continuous glucose monitoring machines (CGM), Flash Glucose Monitoring (FGM) and Insulin pump in the examination hall in transparent pouch or box.

However, to avail the facility, students must provide information regarding their ailment from Type-1 diabetes and parents need to approach the examination centre at least one day before to inform the centre superintendent about the same. Students who suffer from diabetes must reach schools at least 45 minutes ahead the start of examination.

In order to get the above facility, students need to get a recommendation of the medical specialist for CM/FGM/Insulin pump during the examination. Parents undertaking will also be required to declare the safety of the examination.

According to the information available, among all the diabetic population in the country, a sizeable number of children suffer with Type 1 Diabetes who need insulin injections at regular intervals to manage blood glucose level. These children need frequent meals to avoid hypoglycaemia which may otherwise affect their performance.

Notably, the CBSE Class 10 and 12 board exams 2024 will be administered between February 15 and April 2, 2024. With just one week until the start of the CBSE Board Exam 2024, the notification caters to the medical need of students.
