India Is Hosting International Olympiad On Astronomy & Astrophysics In 2025

India is going to host the 18th edition of the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) scheduled to be held in August 2025. Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, TIFR made this announcement via their social media platform.

IOAA shared the information on Facebook and stated, “India will host #IOAA2025! The 18th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics will be held in Mumbai, India in August 2025, with @HBCSE_TIFR leading the efforts. The IOAA flag was formally handed over to the Indian team at the closing ceremony of IOAA2024”.

The 17th edition of the Olympiad was held in Brazil from August 17 to 25, where the Indian team won one gold and four silver medals. The gold medal was won by Daksh Tayalia from Karnataka, while the silver medals were won by Aayush Kuthari and Sandhiya from Maharashtra, Banibarata from Telangana, and Panini  from Bihar.

There were 232 students from 52 countries who participated in the 17th edition. In the medal telly, India is placed at the 8th place behind Iran (5 golds), USA (3 golds), Romania, South Korea, Singapore, Slovenia and Candada (2 golds each).

Indian students also won two gold medals and three silver medals at the 54th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO), one gold and bronze medal each, and two silver medals at the 56th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO2024).
