UP Govt Introduces New Scholarships In Sanskrit Schools

While showcasing to promote and preserve the Sanskrit language, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken a significant step in providing scholarships to all students studying in over 500 Sanskrit schools in the state, irrespective of the family’s economic status.

The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. As per the state records, there are 517 Sanskrit schools and 1,21573 students who are studying in Sanskrit schools in Uttar Pradesh.

Now the scholarship will be provided to all students whether their family income is less than Rs 50,000 annually. Earlier there was an income limit of Rs 50,000 for the family. During the meeting, it was also decided to increase the scholarship amount for classes 9 to 12 in these schools.  The new scholarship amount ranges from Rs 50 to Rs 200 per month annually. The revision came after over two decades. The last increase was done in 2001.

Now scholarship is also introduced for Prathma (class 6 to 8) students. Students studying from classes 6 to 7 would get a scholarship of Rs 50 per month while those who are in class 8 will get a monthly scholarship fo Rs 75.

The scholarship for PoorvMadhyama classes means 9th and 10th would be Rs 100 per month while for Uttar Madhyama classes means for 11th and 12th would be Rs 150 per month. While the scholarhsip for Shastri and Acharya would be Rs 200 and Rs 250 per month respectively.

As per the official information, the revision of schloarship will cost the exchequer over Rs 19.65 crore.

The scholarship application will be available in offline mode but from the next academic session the application can be filled in an online mode, the official statement mentioned.
