India’s Ministry of Home Affairs has introduced two new visa categories – the ‘e-student visa’ and the ‘e-student-x visa’. The new visa categories are designed to streamline the enrollment process for international students studying in India and their dependents.
These e-visas align with the government’s efforts to promote the Study in India (SII) program. The program offers over 8,000 courses across 600 accredited Indian universities, including fields like engineering, management, arts, sciences, yoga and Buddhist studies.

The e-student visa is available for international students registered on the SII portal. This is specially designed for students inteding to enrol in undergraduate, graduate, doctoral or certificate programs in India.
The e-student-X visa is designed for dependents of e-student visa holders accopanying them in India. Both visas offers a validity of fiver years, which can be extended within India.
The Study in India (SII) portal serves as a one-stop solution, streamlining the admission and visa application process. Students can register by providing basic information, after which they receive a unique SII ID required for their visa application. Visa applicatins can be submitted on the official Indian visa website after securing admission.
