Ministry Of Education Launches Vidyanjali Scholarship Programme

To support students from economically disadvantaged groups, Ministry of Education has launched EdCIL Vidyanjali Scholarship Programme. The scholarship aims to offer access to financial resources and opportunities to empower meritorious students from Navodaya Vidyalaya.

The scholarship programme encourages involvement from the private sector under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. The official notification informs that the EdCIL Vidyanjali Scholarship Programme aligns with the National Education Policy 2020.

During the launching event of the scholarship program, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan informed that approximately 14,000 students of Navodaya Vidyalaya were succeeded to get admission into reputed higher educational institutions including IITs and NITs without joining any coaching. Among these students many were belonged to economically marginalised families. He further informed that around 70 students were given scholarships worth Rs 5 crore in the past.


The scholarship aims to revolutionise opportunities for quality education and access to higher educational institutions, the notification reads. “This initiative guarantees access to high-quality learning systems by facilitating a seamless transition from secondary to higher education and extending financial support for the meritorious Navodaya Vidyalaya students who lack means”, as per the official information.

Insinuating towards the inclusiveness of the scholarship program, Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan said, “the Vidyanjali Scholarship Program symbolises a whole-of-society approach to empowerment through access and opportunities of education. Nation-building is a collective effort of all citizens and it was heartwarming to see the corporates enthusiastically coming forward to support and sponsor academically gifted and meritorious students lacking the financial means to pursue education.”

According to the information furnished by government on official website, “This initiative would connect schools with varied volunteers from the Indian Diaspora namely, young professionals, retired teachers, retired Government officials, retired professionals, NGOs, Private Sector and Public Sector Companies, Corporate Institutions and many others.”

The Department of School Education and Literacy initiative will help in connecting community and volunteers with the government and government-aided schools to contribute to education.
