The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a notification alerting medical aspirants seeking medical degrees from foreign universities. NMC warns students against being admitted into medical colleges abroad that do not align with the regulations prescribed by the NMC for curriculum, time frame, and training.
The commission said that any variation in the duration, medium of instruction, syllabus, internship, or clinical training will lead to the disqualification of registration in India. The sole responsibility of disqualification will lie upon the candidate only.

As per the notice issued by the NMC, “it has come to the notice of this Commission that despite Advisory and Alert issued by NMC, several Indian students are seeking admission to private medical colleges abroad which do not adhere to regulations laid by National Medical Commission and the institutes or universities abroad are following the curriculum, time frame, and training imparted to the students do not align with NMC regulations being followed in India. It has also come to the notice of this Commission that many students still taking admissions to such institutes/universities”
The terms of duration of the study, medium of instructions, syllabus, clinical training or internship, etc are given under the Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiates (FMGL) Regulations 2021, issued by the NMC. To abide by these conditions is mandatory for the registration to practice allopathy in India.

All those students who desire to obtain medical degrees from abroad should see whether the university or college follows the conditions prescribed in FMGL.
Notably, medical students possessing a primary medical qualification awarded by any medical institution outside India shall have to qualify for a screening test conducted by the prescribed authority for practicing in India.
