NTA Prepones SHRESTHA NETS- 2024 Exam To May 11

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has rescheduled the SHRESHTA (NETS-2024) exam to May 11, 2024, from its earlier May 24, 2024, due to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

SHRESHTA provides high-quality education to meritorious students from the SC category, through CBSE-affiliated reputed residential schools. Through this exam, the central government will support the education of around 3,000 students in classes 9th and 11th.

NTA has been inviting online applications from March 12 till April 4, 2024, through the official website – www.exams.nta.ac.in. The correction window will remain open from April 6 to April 8, 2024, up to 5 PM. Candidates can download the admit cards on May 6, 2024, tentatively from the NTA website.

The 3-hour examination will be commenced in a single shift from 2 PM to 5 PM on May 11, 2024. The paper will be bilingual in English and Hindi. Notably, the National Entrance Test for SHRESTHA (NETS) 2024 will be conducted in offline mode. The result is expected to be declared within 4 to 6 weeks after the examination.

The relevant information about eligibility, the scheme of examination, centers, timings, and application procedure is given in detail in the information bulletin given on the NTA website. Candidates are advised to regularly check the official website for the latest updates.

Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has entrusted the responsibility of conducting the National Entrance Test for the Scheme for Residential Education for Students in Higher Classes in Targeted Areas (SHRESHTA (NETS))-2024 to NTA.

SHRESHTA aims to fill the gap in service-deprived Scheduled Castes (SCs) dominant areas in the sector of high-quality education by collaborating with voluntary organizations so these students can explore future opportunities.

A recent all-India survey on higher education found that over the previous five years, the percentage of students from marginalized communities—scheduled caste, scheduled tribe, and other backward castes—has increased more than the national average.

According to a ministry of education data, the overall increase in the number of students enrolled in higher education institutions between 2017–18 and 2021–22 is 18.1%, while it is 25.43% for the SC category.
