Supreme Court Adjourns Pleas To Cancel NEET-UG 2024 To July 18

The Supreme Court adjourned the hearing of the petitions demanding the cancellation of the NEET UG 2024 exam to July 18, today. The court granted it to enable petitioners to file responses to the affidavits filed by the Centre and the NTA yesterday. The bench comprises of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala, and Manoj Misra.

The bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud was hearing petitions filed regarding paper leaks and other matters regarding the NEET-UG exam conducted on May 5, 2024. It initially proposed the hearing on July 15 but postponed it as the Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta and the Attorney General would not be available on that day.

The Union Government filed an affidavit denying any mass malpractice in the NEET UG 2024 exam and claimed that the data analytics done by the IIT Madras showed that mark distribution followed a bell-shaped curve which underscores no abnormalities and is usually seen in any large-scale exam.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) filed an affidavit stating that the video showing a photo of the NEET UG 2024 paper leaked on Telegram on May 4 is fake and was manipulated to create a false impression of the paper leak.

On July 8, the bench led by CJI sought responses from the Union Government and the NTA on the extent of the paper leak and possible segregation of wrongdoers. The court said to conduct a re-test if the sanctity of the entire exam was compromised and if it is impossible to separate the beneficiaries of fraud from the honest candidates.
