Supreme Court To List NEET PG 2025 Plea Before June 2

The NEET PG 2025 candidates requested the Supreme Court for an urgent hearing regarding conducting the exam in two shifts today, on May 26. The counsel appearing for the petitioners mentioned CJI BR Gavai and Justice AG Masih to list the plea urgently, as the examination admit cards would be issued on June 2.

The bench agreed to list the matter soon. Notably, the matter was also mentioned on May 23 before the bench led by CJI Gavai to hear the matter in the last week of May.

The NEET PG 2025 exam is to be held on June 15, and the result will be declared by July 15.

The Court had sought a response from the National Board of Examination on May 5, the National Medical Council, and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Recently, the Supreme Court has directed to stoppage of seat-blocking in NEET-PG counselling. The Court also said to publish raw scores, answer keys and normalisation formulae of NEET PG exams.

Why NBE’s Two-Shift Policy Is Under Challenge?

As per the petition, holding the exam in two shifts is unfair due to varying difficulty levels between shifts. It seeks direction from the NBE to hold the NEET PG 2025 exam in a single shift to maintain ‘just, fair, reasonable, and equitable ‘ ground for all of the candidates.

Holding the exam in two shifts directly vilates the rights of the candidates under Article 14 of the constitution and also violate the article 21 as the process violates the basic right to fair examination, the petition argues.

The petition mentioned the likelihood of a more difficult question paper for one batch of candidates, as happened in the case of NEET PG 2024, and allegedly easier for the second shift candidates. Therefore, the petitioners prayed for NEET PG 2025 to be held in a single shift.
