The Anjora village of Chhattisgarh consisting of mere 5000 population has drawn attention of many as the village constitute of two constituencies. Anjora is a village which lies in the border of between the Durg and Rajnandgaon districts in a way that small parts of the both districts lies in the village.
The village, located around 10 km from Durg town on the Mumbai-Howrah National Highway-53 between Durg and Rajnandgaon cities, is also governed by two panchayats – Anjora village panchayat (Rajnandgaon) and Anjora ‘kh (B)’ village panchayat (Durg), reports Deccan herald.
Rajnandgaon was among the 20 seats which has gone polling on November 7 while, Durg was included along with remaining 70 constituencies which went polling on November 17.
As per the natives of the village, the Rajnandgaon district was formed in 1973 after being carved from Durg district (in erstwhile Madhya Pradesh). Since then, the village has been divided into two panchayats. The delimitation of the assembly seats was also done in the same manner in such a way that half of the village falls in one constituency and other half in the other segment.
Both constituencies are prominent as the high-profile candidates like former chief minister Raman Singh and the state’s home minister Tamradhwaj Sahu are in fray.
Meanwhile BJP has fielded Raman Singh for Rajnandgaon seat whereas Girish Dewanagn current chairman of Chhattisgarh State Mineral Development Corporation, is the Congress” nominee. The Rajnandgaon constituency holds great importance as it is a state assembly as well as vidhan sabha constituency.
In 2018, Dr Raman Singh, BJP candidate won the seat by defeating Indian National Congress Karuna Shukla with a winning margin of 16933 votes. Similarly in 2013, Raman Singh won the seat by garnering 86797 votes. While in Durg, the Congress has fielded minister Sahu, prominent OBC leader against BJP candidate Lalit Chandrakar.
Arun Vora representing Indian National Congress was the winning candidate from the Durg city in 2018, securing 64981 votes while 43900 votes were polled in favour of Chandrika Chandrakar of the BJP. The margin of victory was 21081 votes. In 2013, Arun Vora won against Hemachand Yadav with a vote margin of 5621 votes.
Meanwhile, only in 2003 BJP secured a seat from the Durg constituency. Hemachand Yadav, BJP candidate won against Arun Vora with a victory margin of 712 votes.
