
CPI(M)'s Om Prakash Trailing For Over 19,000 Votes In Bhiwani
Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI (M)’s Om Prakash, an INDIA alliance candidate in Haryana’s Bhiwani for over 19,503 against his nearest rival Ghanshyam Saraf of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Ghanshyam Saraf is a three-time MLA from the constituency and has managed to stay ahead of Om Prakash from the beginning of the counting. As per the Election Commission of India data, seven rounds of counting is over and 10 more rounds are left.
Earlier, CPI has deliberated an alliance with the AAP and CPI, both of which failed due to disagreements in seat allocation discussions. The party then went on to form alliance with Congress, which is not contesting from the constituency this year.
Om Prakash is the Bhiwani district secretary and a member of the party’s state committee. Prakash retired as chief manager of UCO Bank in 2014, stating that he wanted to dedicate himself to the struggles of farmers and workers and social causes.
After winning ticket to contest, Om Prakash expressed his gratitude to his party and the Congress leadership for the ticket he received and said he would ensure the supply of 14 items on the pattern of their government (Left) in Kerala, adding that at present only wheat and rice are supplied under the PDS.
Bhiwani has been the strong hold of the BJP. In the 2019 assembly election, Saraf won the seat by defeating Shiv Shanker Bhardwaj of Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) over the margin of 27,884 votes. In 2014, Saraf won the election by defeating Nirmala Saraf on INLD with the margin of 28,597 votes.
