Ladwa, the constituency from which the chief minister Nayab Singh Saini is contesting, is all set to witness an intense battle. Posing stiff competition against the BJP chief ministerial candidate, Congress’s incumbent MLA Mewa Singh, AAP’s Joga Singh, INLD’s Sher Singh Barshami, and JJP’s advocate Vinod Sharma. are all lining up. The task therefore would be uphill for the chief minister to protect his prestige in the upcoming assembly elections in Haryana.

After the formation of the constituency in 2007, Ladwa first elected Sher Singh Barshami from INLD. In the 2014 assembly elections, the BJP’s Pawan Saini emerged victorious with a thin majority. Notably, in 2019, Congress’s Mewa Singh by a margin of 12,637 votes, showcasing the unpredictable and diverse voter choices.

As a constituency with a predominantly rural population with Scheduled Castes comprising 22.6 percent and the Saini community up to 7.4%, the voters’ behavior has never been consistent, making the contest even more interesting with competent figures vying. The seat has never elected a party member twice since 2009.

However, the saffron party picked its chief ministerial candidate from Ladwa given the fact that the BJP secured 47.14 percent of the votes from the assembly constituency segment during the recently held Lok Sabha elections, thus assuming it is safe for Saini. Ladwa is part of the Kurukshetra Lok Sabha seat.

Since the BJP filed Saini from, Ladwa became a high-profile seat, making the contest more difficult for Mewa Singh as he has to face the chief minister. In addition, the other candidates vying from the constituency are also analysed to have the potential to make significant impact.

The voting for the 90 assembly constituencies in Haryana would be conducted on October 5, and the result will be declared on October 8 along with the Jammu and Kashmir result. In 2019, the saffron party won 40 seats in Haryana while the Congress secured 31, leading to the second consecutive BJP rule in the state.
