
Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil Summoned by Crime Branch in Voter ID Fraud Case
Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: Following sexual misconduct allegations, Congress MLA Rahul Rahul Mamkootathil, is caught in yet another controversy. The Crime Branch has summoned the Palakkad MLA in connection with the use of fake voter identity cards in the Youth Congress state elections. A notice has been issued for him to appear for interrogation on Saturday.
The Crime Branch decided to summon Rahul Mamkootathil, as his name is being mentioned in the voice recording on the phone of Abhinand Vikram, third accused in the case. Reportedly, his name was mentioned in the phone conversation related the alleged voter id controversy.

According to the case, ahead of the elections, Youth Congress made fake Election Commission voter ID cards and handed over to the members. The Museum Police registered a case based on a complaint filed by the Chief Election Commissioner in November 2023. At the beginning of the case, the police had questioned Rahul Mamkootathil and had denied allegations.The Crime Branch, which is investigating the case, is now interrogating the Congress leader again.
In connection with the case, Police initially arrested four Youth Congress workers, Abhi Vikram, Feny, Binil Binu, and Vikas Krishna, During raids on their homes, authorities reportedly seized 24 fake ID cards, as well as laptops and mobile phones. In January of last year, Youth Congress activist Jaison, who is considered the prime accused, surrendered to the police after receiving a directive from the district sessions court in Thiruvananthapuram, Onmanorama reports.

Rahul Mamkootathil has been suspended from the party’s primary membership by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) following accusations of sexual misconduct. He had earlier resigned from the state youth congress president post. Although there has been an increasing demand for his resignation from the MLA post, the party leadership decided against it to avoid a byelection in Palakkad.
