Polling Underway In Kalamassery: P Rajeev Confident Of Consecutive LDF Government

Kalamassery: Polling is underway in the Kalamassery Assembly constituency as part of the 2026 Kerala Legislative Assembly elections being conducted across the state on Thursday.

Voters began arriving at polling stations early in the morning, and officials report steady turnout with the voting process progressing peacefully.
Kalamassery, located in Ernakulam district, is a general category constituency with a total electorate of 1,95,291 voters.

Of these, 94,611 are male voters, and 1,00,678 are female voters. According to the 2011 Census, the constituency has a literacy rate of 95.68 per cent, while the Scheduled Caste population accounts for 11.12 per cent.

The key contest in the constituency is between P. Rajeev of the CPI(M) representing the Left Democratic Front (LDF), Adv. V. E. Abdul Gafoor of the IUML, part of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), and Binu of the BDJS, representing the NDA alliance.

Other candidates in the fray include A. Rajeena (SUCIC), Ajmal K. Mujeeb (SDPI), Siyad V. A. (BSP), Shamsu T. K. (AAP) and Rajeev, son of Vareed, contesting as an independent candidate.

Speaking during the polling process, P. Rajeev expressed confidence in the Left Democratic Front forming a consecutive government in the state.

In the 2021 Assembly elections, P. Rajeev of CPI(M) won the Kalamassery seat by defeating Adv. V. E. Abdul Gafoor of IUML with a margin of 15,336 votes.

Polling across all 140 constituencies in Kerala is being conducted in a single phase today, while the counting of votes will take place on May 4.
