“We Work Quietly”: Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia As BJP Conserves Solid Margin In Madhya Pradesh

“We were doing our work quietly…”, said Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Union Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel, on Sunday. He expressed delight to the media as BJP confirmed victory in the 2023 Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly Elections, with a clear margin. The party is about to form another government in the state and has crossed the halfway mark. The counting is still in progress and the major leaders are all keeping a substantial vote margin.

Mr Scindia criticised the Congress party and said that the opposition was “preparing Ladoos and congratulatory posters” and they have put them up. According to the Union Minister, the BJP did their work in Madhya Pradesh silently. He also mentioned about the Ladli Behna scheme as the “game-changer” and attributed the full credit behind it to CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Mukhya Mantri Ladli Behna Yojana was initiated by Madhya Pradesh government in January 2023. This program aims to provide financial empowerment to underprivileged girls and women in the state, offering a monthly grant of ₹1000. This translates to an annual sum of ₹12,000 deposited into the bank accounts of eligible women aged 23-60 years old.

As per the recent trends provided by the Election Commission of India (ECI), the BJP is leading in 162 seats and Congress in 65 seats. Madhya Pradesh has a total number of 230 assembly constituencies and the state went the polling booths on November 17.

The BJP was expecting an easy win looking back to the state’s previous history. The sitting Chief Minister, Mr Chouhan, is there in the office since 2005, except a two-year break in 2018 to 2020. He is the longest-serving CM of Madhya Pradesh (4 times) and also the national Vice-President of BJP – a steadfast labourer of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
