What PM Modi Said On His First Ever Election Win

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reminisced about his political journey as he reflected on his first-ever electoral victory in the Gujarat Legislature exactly 22 years ago. Reacting to a post by “Modi Archive” commemorating the event, PM Modi expressed gratitude towards the people of Rajkot, the constituency where he secured his maiden electoral triumph.

In the 2002 by-election, PM Modi emerged victorious over Congress” Ashwinbhai Narbheshankar Mehta with a margin of over 14,000 votes, marking a significant milestone in his political career. Modi had contested the elections after being chosen as the chief minister of Gujarat replacing Keshubhai Patel.

His entry into the Gujarat Legislature following this triumph signalled the beginning of an era that not only changed the course of Modi’s political career but also the history of both BJP and India. He was later elected twice to the Gujarat Assembly and in 2014 sworn in as the Prime Minister of India and currently on a second term.

Acknowledging the special place Rajkot holds in his heart, PM Modi credited the people of the city for placing their trust in him during that historic election. He affirmed his commitment to serving the aspirations of the people, referring to them as “Janta Janardan” (the people”s representatives).

PM Modi also noted the timing of his visit to Gujarat, coinciding with the anniversary of his first electoral victory. He mentioned his upcoming program in Rajkot, where he would dedicate five AIIMS (All India Institutes of Medical Sciences) to the nation, further emphasizing his administration”s dedication to healthcare advancements.

“Rajkot will always have a very special place in my heart. It was the people of this city who put their faith in me, giving me my first ever electoral win. Since then, I have always worked to do justice to the aspirations of the Janta Janardan. It’s also a happy coincidence that I will be in Gujarat today and tomorrow, and one of the programmes is being held in Rajkot, from where 5 AIIMS will be dedicated to the nation,” he wrote.
