Pandit Banaras Tiwari, father of OMG 2 and Mirzapur actor Pankaj Tripathi, died today aged 99. An official statement from the actor said the last rites will be held on Monday.

“It”s with a heavy heart to confirm that Pankaj Tripathi”s father, Pandit Banaras Tiwari is no more. He lived a wholesome life of 99 years. His last rites will be performed today amongst his close family. Pankaj Tripathi is currently on his way to his village in Gopalganj,” an official statement on behalf of the actor said.

Recently, in an interview with online media house Mashable, the versatile actor, who is known for his performances in critically acclaimed projects like Gangs of Wasseypur, Masaan and Sacred Games, had talked abut his father.

“He is not too proud of my achievements. My father does not even know what and how I do in cinema. To date, he has not seen how a movie theatre looks from the inside. He sees my work if someone shows him on their computer or on the television, which was recently installed at my house,” the 46 year old actor from Bihar said.

Pankaj Tripathi, a National School of Drama graduate, was last seen in Akshay Kumar-starrer OMG 2. His next projects include Fukrey 3 and Main Atal Hoon.
