Vidaamuyarchi, the much-anticipated film of Ajith Kumar under the direction of Magizh Thirumeni, hit theatres today. The reviews about the film are pouring in, echoing the fact that it is not a usual action film of the mass hero Ajith.

India Today described the film as a full-blown thriller. Even though the review highlighted that it’s not a film without flaws, it observed that the Trisha starrer remained true to the genre. As per the review, the screenplay didn’t rely on stardom and fell flat in many places due to its formulaic approach. Moreover, it said that the film didn’t go big on action or thrills and lacked an emotional arc and some solid twists and turns.
Highlighting the unusual approach of the film, the Times of India reviewed that the film is not the usual Ajith outing and marks a departure from his typical mass masala films. As it highlights the standout aspects of the film, the review stated that the movie didn’t give the usual euphoria that fans expected from their hero but offered some enjoyable moments nevertheless. It also alerts viewers, saying that those who watch road trip thrillers on OTT, or are familiar with the genre, might find the setup and predict the storyline.
Even though the film faces predictable issues, News 18 reviewed that it was largely engaging throughout despite the predictability. It also states that the film delivers a message that the actor wants to break the mould of a superhero. The review praised the film, stating, “Finally, there is a superstar who wants to walk and talk like a normal person, desires to do things by the books, is morally right, and doesn’t want to get stuck in the feedback loop catering to what sells.”

Resonating the same, Indian Express wrote that it was an action film featuring one of the biggest stars of Tamil cinema, who was stripped of all his stardom, almost. It also lauded the director, stating that the film remained largely faithful to the plot, giving it a few necessary changes to suit Indian sensibilities. The review pointed out the difference that, at times, the film served the star, but it was never servicing the fans, and that makes all the difference. It also states that Ajith surrendered himself to the vision of director Magizh, and the result was there for everyone to see.
Produced by Subaskaran Allirajah under Lyca Productions, the film stars Ajith Kumar, Trisha, Arjun Sarja, Arav, Regina Cassandra, and Ramya Subramanian in lead roles.
