Filmmaker Arun Matheswaran, known for his directorial ventures like the recent Captain Miller and Saani Kaayidham, is reportedly set to helm the highly anticipated biopic of music legend Ilaiyaraaja. If the rumors are to be believed, Matheswaran will take charge of this project, with the talented actor Dhanush portraying the role of the legendary composer.
While there hasn”t been an official confirmation regarding Matheswaran”s involvement, a Pinkvilla report suggests that he will soon begin work on the script, once Dhanush”s involvement is confirmed to bring Ilaiyaraaja”s extraordinary musical journey to life on the screen.
This comes amidst speculations of acclaimed filmmaker R Balki as the potential director. Balki, expressing his admiration for Dhanush”s ability to embody Ilaiyaraaja”s persona, had expressed his desire to collaborate on the project, calling it as a dream venture in a promotional event for his film Ghoomar (2023). However, with the latest buzz surrounding Matheswaran”s potential involvement, the direction of the biopic seems to have taken an intriguing turn.
The untitled biographical drama will reportedly chronicle the life and career of the music maestro Ilaiyaraaja, spanning over five decades. With over 7,000 compositions featured in more than 1,000 films, Ilaiyaraaja”s contribution to Indian cinema remains unparalleled. The biopic will highlight his journey before attaining fame, his evolution as a musician and the applause that cemented his legacy, including prestigious honors such as the Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan.
While the project”s details continue to unfold, Dhanush fans are already buzzing with anticipation. Apart from his role in the Ilaiyaraaja biopic, the actor is gearing up for the much-awaited film Raayan, previously titled D50, where he will be sharing the screen with Kalidas Jayaram and Sundeep Kishan. He is also set to star in DNS, alongside Nagarjuna and Rashmika Mandanna, written and directed by Sekhar Kammula.
