With just days to go before its grand worldwide release, Kuberaa, the much-anticipated crime drama led by Dhanush and directed by National Award-winner Sekhar Kammula, is witnessing an electrifying surge in buzz, particularly in the United States.

The Telugu-language action thriller, which also stars Nagarjuna, Rashmika Mandanna, and Jim Sarbh, has sparked strong pre-release momentum both online and at the box office. The film will be released on June 20.

As per the reports, in the US, Kuberaa has taken a commanding early lead at the box office with advance ticket sales surpassing $115,800 (approx ₹1 crore) across 350 locations, spanning nearly 665 shows. With over 6,600 tickets already sold, the film has seen a dramatic rise in interest, up by a stunning 220% in just 48 hours.

Originally announced under the working title D51 in 2021, referring to Dhanush’s 51st film as a lead actor, the project evolved into DNS following the addition of Nagarjuna and Sekhar Kammula.

The final title, Kuberaa, stylised from the Hindu deity of wealth, was officially unveiled in March 2024. However, a title dispute led to a minor spelling tweak, and the film now releases as Kuberaa.

Sekhar Kammula, known for his strong storytelling rooted in emotion and realism, shifts gears into darker territory with Kuberaa, a gritty crime drama laced with action and suspense.

Dhanush takes centre stage as Deva, a man entangled in a web of crime, morality, and power. Nagarjuna plays Deepak, while Rashmika Mandanna stars as Sameera, with Jim Sarbh in a pivotal role. The film also features Dalip Tahil, Sayaji Shinde, and Sunaina in key roles.

The buzz around Kuberaa has been building steadily, aided by its strong promotional campaign, sleek visuals, and a powerful background score by Devi Sri Prasad. Tracks like Poyiraa Mama and Anaganaga Kadha are already gaining popularity, and the film’s audio album has further intensified fan excitement.

According to trade analysts, Kuberaa is on track to deliver one of Dhanush’s biggest openings overseas, possibly rivalling his previous international successes like Asuran and Jagame Thandhiram.

Kuberaa is set to clash at the box office with Aamir Khan’s comeback film Sitaare Zameen Par, billed as a spiritual sequel to his 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par. While SZP leans toward emotional, family-driven storytelling, Kuberaa is expected to draw in action and crime genre fans, offering a completely different flavour.

Shot across Hyderabad, Mumbai, Goa, and Bangkok, Kuberaa wrapped filming in April 2025. The production journey wasn’t without hiccups—most notably a controversy surrounding roadblocks during a shoot near Tirupati temple, and a title rights dispute with another filmmaker, both of which generated headlines earlier this year.
