Kuberaa Box Office Day 1: Dhanush-Rashmika Starrer Opens To Moderate Box Office Numbers

The pan-India film Kuberaa, featuring Dhanush, Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna, opened to moderate box office numbers on its first day. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned approximately ₹13 crore across all languages on Day 1.

While the figures fall slightly short of expectations, especially when compared to Dhanush’s last Tamil release Raayan, which opened at ₹16 crore.

Kuberaa, shot simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil, was also released in dubbed versions across Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam. Not surprisingly, the film performed best in Telugu-speaking regions, where it recorded an overall occupancy of 57.36%. Footfalls grew consistently throughout the day: from 38.94% in the morning shows to a strong 78.87% by night.

However, outside of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the film’s performance remained underwhelming. In Tamil Nadu, the film clocked a modest 33.73% occupancy, while Karnataka and Hindi-speaking regions saw significantly lower turnouts, registering just 6.54% and 6.73% occupancy, respectively.

Despite the sluggish start in non-Telugu markets, Kuberaa may still find traction over the weekend through positive word-of-mouth, especially given its star-studded ensemble and mass appeal. Dhanush’s tour de force performance, Rashmika Mandanna’s presence, coupled with Nagarjuna’s draw in the Telugu belt, could further help sustain audience interest.

This release comes at a time when the South Indian film industry, particularly Telugu and Tamil cinema, has experienced a mixed year at the box office.

Films like Game Changer, Daaku Maharaj, and HIT: The Third Case opened to much hype but delivered varying results. While Game Changer posted an impressive ₹51 crore on Day 1, it only managed a lifetime collection of ₹131 crore, underwhelming for its massive budget.

Similarly, Daaku Maharaj collected ₹90 crore overall after a ₹25 crore opening, and HIT: The Third Case saw a significant drop after an ₹21 crore opening, ending its run around ₹80 crore.

In the Tamil industry, Ajith’s Good Bad Ugly emerged as a solid hit, grossing over ₹153 crore after a strong ₹29 crore opening. On the other hand, Kamal Haasan’s much-hyped Thug Life opened at ₹15 crore but has struggled to cross the ₹50 crore mark even after two weeks in theatres.
