The first part of Devara, starring Jr NTR, and Jahnvi Kapoor hit theatres today. Directed by Koratala Siva, the film also stars Saif Ali Khan, and Prakash Raj in key roles. The director, who is also the writer of Devara, make sure that his lead characters revolve around larger-than-life protagonists who are deeply rooted in the ethos of the common man, yet they carry strong ideas about societal reform and mass appeal. Here is how others reviewed the project.

According to Indian Express, Siva went a step further in glorifying his heroes, as seen in his film. In Devara, he went on and took his protagonist to mythical heights. The review pointed that it was in the director’s act of demystifying the myth through two films rather than just one where the film essentially crumbles like a salted cracker. It said while the efficiency of duologies in the film is a debatable topic, the film is burdened by the curious case of the underwhelming second half.

Hindustan Times said Devara Part 1 kind of starts out well if you put all logic aside and suspend disbelief. It said the film can be read out from its trailers, if one pays close attention to it. The outlet also pointed that the second half of the film topples like a house of cards. The review said Devara: Part 1’s fun moments only occur when Koratala decides to go so over-the-top campy that you can’t help but be entertained. Hindustan Times concluded that the film ended with a Baahubali-esque ending setting up the story for a sequel, and hopes for a better one ahead.

Times Now said Devara has a promising opening, and the intricate plot of the film unravels the truth behind something mysterious and unfolds as the narrative progresses. But soon, the film settles down as a typical action drama with dramatic action sequences and dialogues. It said the one element that you get in abundance in Devara is beautifully choreographed and breathtaking action sequences, and it was also one of the standout features and visually appealing.

OTT Play said while the film is high on action, the drama is somewhat underwhelming. It said the emotions are good, the needed drama is not elevated properly as a chunk of it has been kept aside for the second part. It said Devara lives up to all the fights in the film. It said the director ensured that the VFX is done right and there is no scope to pinpoint any error in terms of visuals. Saif Ali Khan makes an impressive debut in Telugu and is perfect for the role of Bhairaa. Saif brings a lot of depth to the film but one gets a feeling that he is underutilized in the film., said the review. OTT Play said that while the film had a clicking visuals and action click, the drama is weak, and the build up for the second half looked baked.

According to Timeline, there are two more important elements in the movie might help the Telugu star Jr NTR to overcome the Rajamouli curse as well: one, Devara’s ensemble cast is perfectly done and suits very well with the plot, and two, the presentation of the movie for a mass film project takes lesson from all the other industry hits like RRR, Pushpa and Bahubali. The review said the film, though sloppy at times, with powerful story and perfect casting, Devara Part 1 is a thrilling ride.
