Raayan director and lead actor Dhanush expressed his amazement and gratitude as AR Rahman performed the song “Usure Needhane” in Kuala Lumpur on July 27. Reflecting on the moment, Dhanush said he never imagined that the simple words he wrote for the song would resonate with millions and become iconic. He described the experience as a pure “goosebumps moment.”

Dhanush wrote on X: “I never imagined when I wrote these two simple words ” usure needhane ” in your magical melody that it would resonate with millions and become iconic. Wow, this is pure goosebumps moment AR Rahman sir”.

Rahman, who composed the music for Raayan, delivered a captivating album for the movie that left fans and critics impressed. The film, currently running successfully in theaters, also stars SJ Suryah, Sundeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, Selvaraghavan, Prakash Raj, and Dushara Vijayan. Besides “Usure Needhane,” Dhanush also penned another song for the movie.

During his performance at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil, Rahman entertained a crowd of approximately 35,000 with a high-energy show that included his memorable 1990s hits, local media from Kuala Lumpur reported. The over three-hour-long concert, titled ‘Rahman Live in KL 2024,’ featured iconic tracks such as “Jai Ho” from Slumdog Millionaire.

The event, organized by Star Planet, was attended by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, R Ramanan. Rahman praised Anwar for his approachable demeanor, describing him as a “simple man.”

Malaysia has a significant Tamil diaspora and Tamil-origin population.

The concert featured a mix of Hindi and Tamil songs, including performances by popular Tamil singer Mano, who sang “Mukkala Mukkabla” from the 1994 film Kadhalan, as well as songs from Rahman’s compositions for Thiruda Thiruda and Muthu. Singers Srinivas and Swetha Mohan also performed notable numbers from the 1999 film Padayyappa. Additionally, Rahman showcased his meta band project, ‘Secret Mountain,’ a virtual realm integrating music, animation, and interactive storytelling.
