"I Won The Oscars, But Now, Who Cares?": AR Rahman Shares His Vision

The Oscar winning music composer, AR Rahman, who delivered numerous hits in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, English and various other languages, in his recent interview expressed that he works on projects which satisfy his creative instincts.

“I won the Oscars a long time ago, but now, who cares?” the musical genius said, revealing his vision for his work to inspire future generations. Stating his thoughts that he no longer felt the need to prove himself, the Jai Ho composer added that he was selecting big-budget films and non-profit projects that satisfy his creative instincts.

Interestingly, AR Rahman also revealed things that annoy him. The Ponniyin Selvan composer, who is known for his patience and humbleness, said that with age his tolerance had gone down. And the two things which annoy him are a selfie request with a timer and directors who lead him astray.

Elaborating on the latter, he candidly stated that the director often add crazy lyrics, which eventually makes him question himself, “‘Would I want to perform this on stage?’ If the answer is no, I turn it down.”

The music composer, despite admittedly slowing down his compositions, has numerous Tamil, Hindi and Telugu films lined up. After the 2010 film Komaram Puli, he’s returning to Telugu with Buchi Babu Sana’s film with Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor. In Tamil, he’s composing for Thug Life, Genie, Kadhalikka Neramillai, Moon Walk, and Suriya’s next film with RJ Balaji.
