Actor Unni Mukundan, who made heads turn with his vibrant screen presence in the action entertainer Marco, made a shocking announcement today. The actor, who is also an active member and the treasurer of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), announced his resignation today.

Mukundan announced his decision through his social media handle, citing increased work commitments as the reason for the resignation. The actor was elected as the treasurer of AMMA in June 2024, securing the position unopposed. After serving the position for about half a year, the actor now intends to focus on his well-being.

He also revealed that his latest venture, Marco, and other production commitments have significantly affected his mental health. He also ensures that this decision was taken after much thought and reflection.

Announcing his decision to step down from the post, the actor wrote, “I have truly enjoyed my time in this position, and it has been both an exciting and rewarding experience. However, in recent months, the increasing demands of my work, particularly with Marco and other production commitments, have significantly impacted my mental health.”

The Marco actor said that he found it difficult to balance both personal and professional commitments. He wrote, “Balancing these responsibilities along with the pressures of my professional life has become overwhelming. I now realize the importance of stepping back to focus on my own well-being and that of my family’s.”

The actor will continue to serve as the treasurer of the association until a new member is appointed. Explaining this, Mukundan went on to add, “While I have always given my best in serving this role, I recognize that I can no longer fulfill my duties effectively given the growing commitments ahead. It is with a heavy heart that I submit my resignation. I will, however, continue to serve until a new member is appointed, ensuring a smooth transition.”

Touted as the most violent film in Malayalam cinema, the action thriller of Unni Mukundan titled Marco hit theatres on December 20, 2024. Receiving a wide reception from the audience, the film earned Rs. 98.75 crore as its global collection, emerging as the highest-grossing A-rated Malayalam film of all time.
