The dawn of tomorrow will be a special day for Kollywood and especially Superstar Rajinikanth fans. Because, on December 12, the legendary actor will be turning 74. As the glory of the actor has been spread across the globe, the actor’s fans are super excited to celebrate the star’s big day.
To commemorate the star’s birthday, several movies of the actor has been planned to re-release on theaters. And audience get ready to witness the classical creation Mani Ratnam featuring Rajinikanth on screen. Guess what? It’s none other than the 1991 timeless classic, Thalapathi, which will be releasing tomorrow.
What would be a best treat other than witnessing the magic of Mani Ratnam, melodies of Illayaraaja and the soulful screen presence of the duo Superstar and Mammootty. The 90s classic is here again to warm your heart with it’s heartwarming narration.

The film will witness a grand re-release in theaters across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and the gangster drama is positioned to strike at the box office once again.
Mani Ratnam’s Thalapathi is renowned for its compelling narrative, outstanding performances by Rajinikanth, Mammootty, Shobana and notably, Illayaraaja’s unforgettable score. The upcoming re-release offers fans a chance to relive this cinematic classic, while introducing it in a digitally enhanced version.
Inspired by the friendship of Karna and Duryodhana from Mahabharata, the film was a huge breakthrough in the Tamil film industry at the time, with the collaboration of Rajinikanth, Mammootty and Aravind Swami.

Exploring the friendship, the film has notable inputs from the epic Mahabharata, with Rajinikanth playing Surya, based on Karna, while Mammootty played Devaraj, representing Duryodhana. Arvind played Arjun, based on Arjuna. While Rajinikanth is named Surya, his father’s name is never mentioned, choosing to keep his connect to the God of Sun only through his name.
The film interestingly marked the final collaboration of the music composer Illayaraaja and lyricist Vaali with Mani. After this film, the director collaborated with AR Rahman and Vairamuthu instead.
