Singer And Actress Usha Uthup's husband Jani Chacko Uthup Dies
Popular singer and actress Usha Uthup’s husband, Jani Chacko Uthup, died after suffering a massive cardiac arrest at his home in Kolkata today. Chacko Uthup suffered the attack while watching television, and though he was rushed to the hospital, doctors declared brought him dead. He was 78.
Hailing from Tamil Nadu, Usha Uthup married Jani Chacko Uthup, from Kerala’ Kottayam. It was in Kolkata that both met for the first time when Usha Uthup was emerging as a singer. Usha had first proposed Jani Chacko Uthup, an admirer of the singer who used to reach out to clubs to listen to Usha’s songs. Both spent two years in love before marrying in 1971. Jani Chacko Uthup worked in the tea plantation sector.
Usha Uthup was honoured with the Padma Bhushan in January during the 75th Republic Day.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her condolence to the singer Usha and their extended family. The chief minister, in an X post, wrote, “Sad at the passing away of Jani Chacko Uthup, a distinguished fellow citizen of ours, and husband of the iconic music artist Usha Uthup. My condolences to Ushaji and their entire extended family.”

Chacko Uthup is survived by his wife Usha, son Sunny and daughter Anjali. After her father’s demise, Anjali Uthup, taking to her Instagram, wrote, “Appa…gone too soon…but as stylishly as you lived…most handsome man in the world…we love you, a true gentleman and Lawrencian to the core and the finest Tea Taster.”
