Except “didactic” and “overstretched” in parts, The Scroll.in lauds the movie for sharply observed scenes of power play and impeccable performances from both major and minor characters. “Like the previous film, Part 2 smuggles into a conventional manhunt complex and cerebral ideas about the nature of injustice, the hollowness of institutions meant to protect citizens and revolutionary politics,” Scroll. in observes.

“Vijay Sethupathi powers through a Vetrimaaran film that is politically charged with barrage of ideas,” OTT Play writes. Viduthalai 2 is about the rise and rise of Vaathiyar played by Vijay Sethupathi and through director’s narrative the second part almost feels like a stand-alone feature of Vaathiyar and people similar to him. “Vijay Sethupathi brilliantly pulls off a character that has to shoulder a story of oppression through multitude ways and years. In a Vetrimaaran film where political ideologies are not just laced but outspoken, Viduthalai 2 may come of disjointed in parts but still carries a tale to be told,” OTT Play gives verdict.

The movie is strong in content, and “it serves as a handbook to communism,” India Today observes. “Through Viduthalai 2, he asks the right questions and makes people think about who’s right and what is right,” it adds. However, it points out that the tone of the movie gets “a little too preachy” which strikes a flaw. “It is during these moments that the film lags and drags. While the dialogues are hard-hitting, there are voices even when the characters are not in the frame, indicating that they are last-minute additions. Viduthalai Part 2 is a dialogue-heavy film which may not be everyone’s cup of tea,” India Today points out.
