The mythological Telugu film Kannappa, directed by Vishnu Manchu, is all set to hit theatres today. Inspired by the legendary devotee of Lord Shiva from Hindu mythology, the film follows the transformation of Thinnadu, a fierce tribal hunter, into Kannappa, a symbol of selfless devotion. The title role is portrayed by Vishnu Manchu, who is also credited as a writer on the film.
With a string of cameos by several stars from across India’s film industries, Kannappa promises to offer a grand spectacle rooted in Indian mythology.

The film features Prabhas as Rudra, a force of divine strength, wisdom, and protector. Malayalam superstar Mohanlal makes a cameo as Kirata—Master of the Pashupatastra, a divine hunter and a powerful form of Lord Shiva. Speaking of Lord Shiva, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar will make his Telugu debut, essaying the role of Lord Shiva himself. Actress Kajal Aggarwal steps into the role of Goddess Parvati.
While Vishnu Manchu plays Thinnadu, who later becomes Kannappa, his younger version is played by Avram Baktha Manchu.
Other stars in the film include Mohan Babu as Mahadeva Shastri, R. Sarathkumar as Nathanathudu. Preity Mukhundhan takes on the role of Nemali, the female lead. The cast also includes Madhoo, Mukesh Rishi, Brahmaji, Brahmanandam, Siva Balaji, Arpit Ranka, Raghu Babu, Kaushal Manda, Saptagiri, Karunas, and others in important supporting roles.
In short, it’s a jam-packed ensemble waiting to build a divine mythological world in the theatres.
Originally envisioned by actor-director Tanikella Bharani in 2013 as Bhaktha Kannappa, the script eventually reached Vishnu Manchu, who adapted it under his banner 24 Frames Factory, in collaboration with AVA Entertainments. Years of scriptwork and pre-production finally led to the film’s formal launch with a pooja ceremony at Srikalahasteeswara Temple on August 18, 2023.

Blending devotional depth with cinematic flair, the film’s soundtrack has been composed by Stephen Devassy with lyrics by Suddala Ashok Teja, Ramajogayya Sastry, and Bhaskarabhatla.
Initially slated for April 25, 2025 release, the date was pushed to June 27 to accommodate VFX enhancements. Kannappa will release in six languages: Telugu (original), Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, and English.
