Swiggy Declares Bengaluru Is India's 'Cake Capital'

Bengaluru crowned the title of “Cake Capital”, the online food delivery platform Swiggy said on Thursday. A blog post on the Swiggy website, “How India Swiggy”d in 2023” revealed that with placing 8.5 million orders Bengaluru people has earned the city this honour. The chocolate cake was everyone”s favourite, the post reports.

“Love and temptation made for a perfect pairing during Valentine’s Day 2023, as India ordered 271 cakes per minute,” the post said. They also added an interesting note that from their platform a user from Nagpur as ordered 92 cakes in day.

Besides, Swiggy claims that Biriyani topped their list as “the most-ordered dish” and its the eighth consecutive year the dish attains the first position. As per their date India ordered 2.5 biryanis per second in 2023, and “for every 5.5 chicken biryanis, there was one veg biryani ordered,” post adds. Swiggy claims that among them, every 6th biriyani order was placed from Hyderabad.

Citing as biggest trends of 2023, Swiggy notes that a user from Mumbai had placed food orders valuing Rs. 42.3 lakh, and the biggest party host was from Jhansi who placed an order with 269 items. As per their statistics, maximum orders were placed by user accounts from the cities Delhi, Hyderabad, and Chennai and they have placed above 10,000 each.

Apart from these, Swiggy identified India”s most relished dishes as Gulab Jamuns, Masala Dosa, Idli, and Japanese cuisines. This marks eighth year where Swiggy unveiling their annual data regarding food orders, and preferences according to the order users put in the app. The report based on the orders placed from January 1 to November 23. The delivery platform revealed that 6,64,46,312 unique dishes were ordered on Swiggy’s menu across India.
