Paid Rs 4L To Donors, Collected Rs 50L From Recipients: Hyderabad Kidney Racket Case To CID

Telangana: Following reports of Telangana health officials along with Police unearthing an illegal kidney transplant racket operating out of Alakananda Hospital, the state government on Friday handed over the case  to the Crime Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the operation of the racket team.

The racket, which was operating in the private hospital located in Saroornagar on the outskirts of Hyderabad, was busted during a raid on January 21. The initial investigation had suggested that the racket involved doctors from states such as Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The health care professionals were reportedly given incentives to perform illegal kidney transplants in collaboration with the hospital staff.

According to the officials, the doctors, who were brought from other states, conducted the surgeries on January 16. Both the donors and the recipients were connected through agents who are operating in various states. The donors were reportedly paid only 4 lakh each for their kidneys, while the racket collected Rs 50 lakh from each recipient, The News Minutes reported, citing sources.

The investigation was done after the authorities got a tip-off from anonymous sources.  Rachakonda police have reportedly arrested eight accused in the racket. The hospital was also functioning without authorization, and the investigators had found four individuals at the hospital, two kidney donors and two recipients at the facility.
