Popular Diabetes Drug Ozempic Launched In India: Rs 2,200 For Weekly Injectable

New Delhi: In a groundbreaking development, Danish drugmaker Novo Nordisk has introduced its blockbuster diabetes treatment Ozempic in India. At the beginning, the weekly injectable was priced at Rs 2,200.

Ozempic contains semaglutide—the same active ingredient used in Wegovy, which entered the Indian market in June as a weight-loss therapy. The Ozempic entry aims to enhance the drugmaker’s position in the world’s most populous market.

Ozempic is also widely used off-label for weight loss due to its appetite-suppressing effects, although formulated at a lower dosage than Wegovys. India has about 25.4 crore people living with generalized obesity while another 35.1 crore people have abdominal obesity.
